THE STORY BEHIND THE COFFEE

I live in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah — the same city where this coffee is roasted. I know the farmers. I've walked the farm. When I brought the first bags to the US in 2024, customers called us from other states asking for more before we'd even launched a website.

That's when I knew this coffee deserved a proper American home.

WHY BORNEO

Most Americans know Borneo as a place — the jungle, the orangutans, the wild. What they don't know is that Sabah, in the northern tip of Malaysian Borneo, sits at the same latitude as Ethiopia and Panama. The same belt that produces the world's most celebrated coffees.

Sabah's highland farms have been growing exceptional coffee quietly, without an American brand to tell the story. Borneo Coffee Co. exists to change that.

THE FARM

Our coffee comes from Sabarica Coffee in Kota Kinabalu — a small producer using an ecological farming method built around five layers of living forest. Emergent trees pull minerals from 20 meters underground. The canopy shades the cherries until they turn dark purple. Honey bees from the top of the forest pollinate the crop below.

No synthetic pesticides. No industrial shortcuts. The forest does the farming.

THE FIRST BRAND

There is no established Borneo or Malaysian coffee brand in the US market. We are the first. Every bag sold creates direct demand for smallholder farmers in Sabah — people growing world-class coffee in one of the most biodiverse places on earth.
