Grown inside a living rainforest in the highlands of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Five layers of wild forest, from deep-rooted emergent trees to a canopy alive with tropical birds and honeybees, do the farming. No pesticides, no cleared hillside. The cherries ripen slowly in filtered light, then dry whole in the sun.

Scored SCA 85 by a certified Q grader. That is specialty grade, assessed the same way lots from any origin are assessed.

Grown and roasted by Sabarica Coffee in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Tasting notes: dark chocolate, tropical fruit, caramel

Roast level: medium

Whole bean, 250 g / 8.8 oz

I made this for some friends and we all agreed: Folks loved how smooth it was, the dark chocolate flavor is definitely strong, and it did well in the pour over process. Big fan!

This is a fine cup of coffee. Smooth and silky, beautifully balanced, slightly sweet and earthy in a good way. Borneo Coffee is pretty rare in the world of coffee. Reasonably priced too. Have tasted 785 coffees from 46 countries and 88 roasteries. This is a favorite.

Notes:

Drip brewed: 20g:350mL ratio (1:15 yield); OXO Brew drip brewer; with grounds at #18 setting on Baratza Encore.

Looking forward to tasting Borneo Coffee Co. coffee with additional brewing methods such as AeroPress, V60, Chemex etc.

Amazing coffee! I not only know the owners personally and have seen their commitment to top-tier quality and excellence, but I’ve also had the opportunity to observe the very area and lots where the coffee is cultivated and harvested. I personally feel it is a gem of this area of the world.

You should expect a more full cup, with notes of (lighter) dark chocolate, caramel, graham cracker, and a faint hint of walnuts. It really reminds me of a few high-quality Central & South American coffees that I’ve had. It’s been my everyday drinker for a few months now, and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon!
